The Asus ROG Xbox Ally X is currently the best Windows gaming handheld PC on the market. It’s powerful enough to run even the latest AAA Steam games thanks to the updated AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor. The Xbox interface is also intuitive and easy to use. In fact, IGN’s Jackie Thomas recommends getting the Xbox Ally (and Ally X) over a Steam Deck.
All the miniaturization comes at a cost, and the Xbox Ally X sells for $1,000 with no price drop in sight. Fortunately, there is a simple way to get one for a lower price, and that’s by getting an open box unit.
Save $100 Off an Excellent Condition Asus ROG Xbox Ally X
Best Buy has recently refreshed its inventory of open box Asus ROG Xbox Ally X handheld gaming PCs. Instead of paying $1,000 for a new unit, you can pay as little as $838.99 for a “Fair Condition” unit. Personally, I’d recommend getting one in “Excellent Condition” for $899.99. These are Geek Squad verified preowned units that include a 15-day return policy. The better graded “excellent condition” units are in like-new condition both functionally and cosmetically with very low usage time. They may also include most or all of their original warranty.
The Xbox Ally X is one of the most powerful handheld gaming PCs around
The Asus ROG Xbox Ally X is one powerful handheld. It has recently been superseded by the Xbox Ally X20, but performance-wise they are identical. Like it’s successor, the Xbox Ally X is equipped with the latest gen AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and a 1TB SSD. It runs off the Windows operating system, but with Xbox integration. The nomenclature might be confusing, but the Xbox Ally X is really more of an evolution of the the Asus ROG Ally X handheld than it is an actual Xbox console. IGN’s Jacqueline Thomas reviewed the Xbox Ally X and concluded that “the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X [was] easily the best handheld gaming PC available.”
The Xbox Ally X is the least expensive handheld with the R yzen Z2 Extreme CPU
Compared to other gaming handhelds equipped with the same Z2 Extreme CPU, the Xbox Ally X is actually reasonably priced. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 costs $1,300 (and actually recently increased in price) and the MSI Claw A8 costs $1,200. The new Xbox Ally X20 is up for preorder for $1,299.99. Yes, there are some notable improvements, especially the bigger OLED display, but you’re also paying $400 more.
