Even the end of the world can’t keep the Hellboy franchise down. Creator Mike Mignola is once again revisiting his most iconic horror universe for a new miniseries called B.P.R.D.: Declassified.
IGN can exclusively reveal the cover art and first details for B.P.R.D.: Declassified #1, which releases in February 2027. See artist Mike Norton’s cover art below:
B.P.R.D.: Declassified is cowritten by Mignola and Chris Roberson (iZombie), with art by Norton (Battlepug) and colors by Hellboy mainstay Dave Stewart. The first issue also features a variant cover by Gabriel Hardman (Green Lantern: Earth One).
Here’s the official summary of the new series:
Fans last saw the psychic B.P.R.D. agent Susan Xiang in 2025’s The Shadow of the Golden Crane by Chris Roberson and Michael Avon Oeming, where she investigated her family’s connection to the mysterious Golden Crane Society. Now, she’s teaming up with astral projecting B.P.R.D agent Victor Koestler for an otherworldly missing person investigation.
Henry Rouch was overseas working on a classified government project before he mysteriously vanished. The supernatural circumstances surrounding his disappearance means the B.P.R.D. has been called in to investigate, but the agents soon discover that there’s much more to this case than meets the eye.
“We’ve been teasing around the edges of a larger story involving an occult cold war in the pages of Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. and elsewhere for a while now, usually in the background of another supernatural investigation or monster hunt of some kind,” said Roberson in a press release. “B.P.R.D.: Declassified is a chance to pull the curtain back a bit and focus our full attention on what’s been going on in the shadows, and to see that the agents of the B.P.R.D. aren’t the only players on the board. The stakes are higher than Susan Xiang and company ever suspected.”
B.P.R.D.: Declassified #1 will be released on February 17. You can preorder a copy at your local comic shop.
