LEGO Godzilla Announced, Releases on Black Friday

Each year, LEGO releases a major new set on Black Friday. The block-building company has just announced this year’s set: It’s LEGO Godzilla, a 5,363-piece build that will cost $449.99 (see it at LEGO).

This gray-and-blue beast from the Monsterverse stands over 27.5 inches tall and can be posed in a number of different ways. If you buy it between November 27 – 30 while supplies last, you’ll also get a LEGO Godzilla Logo & Footprint set for free as a Gift With Purchase.

LEGO Ideas Godzilla

Fitting with the subject, this is a large, imposing set, with the city-destroying monster standing over two feet tall. The beast’s skin is made up of overlapping gray LEGO bricks, some smooth, and some with “greebling” to create a scaly effect. His dorsal fins are jagged and detailed, made of blocks with varying shades of blue. The overall effect makes it look organic and fiery – it’s very cool.

When you have it built, you can adjust the position of Godzilla’s tail to the left or right. You can also move its head, arms, wrists, and fingers. It comes with a tongue you can put in his mouth, or a blue Heat Ray to add a more dynamic, destructive vibe to the King of Monsters.

LEGO Godzilla springs from the LEGO Ideas line, where fans and amateur builders can create their own designs and submit them for consideration for official release. The original designer of the LEGO Ideas submission for Godzilla is fan designer Matthew Esposito, or MattE720. Once the set received 10,000 votes, LEGO agreed to release the set and had professional designers work with Esposito on the final design for release.

LEGO Godzilla will be available exclusively at the LEGO Store starting at 12:01 a.m. on November 27. Major sets like this tend to sell out very quickly, so if you want it, I’d recommend staying up and buying it right when the listing goes live.

If you buy it early enough, you’ll also get LEGO Godzilla Logo & Footprint as a free Gift With Purchase. This is a 359-piece set that accompanies the main set and is meant to be displayed near it. It features a blue Godzilla logo standing over a giant reptilian footprint.
