Alex Ross Returns for New Marvel Dimensions Graphic Novel

As the artist behind monumental epics like Marvels and Kingdom Come, it goes without saying that Alex Ross is a huge name in the world of comics. In the wake of 2022’s Fantastic Four: Full Circle, we’re excited to see Ross crafting another original graphic at Abrams ComicArts, this time dubbed Marvel Dimensions.

What exactly is Marvel Dimensions? That’s something that Abrams has been keeping pretty well under wraps since its initial announcement. It’s a book that celebrates the heroes of the Marvel Universe, but also one that pushes them in strange and unexpected directions. And it all centers around something called The In-Verse, a 32-page comic-within-a-comic that’s stitched into the binding of this hardcover.

With Marvel Dimensions now hitting stores, IGN can exclusively reveal a new preview of The In-Verse. Check it out in the slideshow gallery below:

Marvel Dimensions is a 112-page hardcover written and illustrated by Ross and published in collaboration between Abrams ComicArts and Marvel Comics. Here’s the official summary for the book:

Marvel Dimensions begins with dramatic, fully painted double-page origin spreads of Marvel’s most iconic characters that echo their earliest stories and iconic secret origins, with appearances from the Human Torch, Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Black Panther, Phoenix, Wolverine, Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, the Avengers, and many others. As the book’s narrator describes each moment with confidence, guiding the reader through these touchstones of Marvel’s history, the story builds, feeling somehow both classic and completely new. And then, 48 pages in, the reader is presented with a comic book inside a graphic novel.

With Marvel Dimensions Ross presents the Marvel Universe in ways readers have never seen before. He uses his creativity and the structure of the book to increase anticipation and pull the reader deeper into a mystery that keeps widening with the turn of each page. Every new sequence reveals another layer, building toward a final act that reframes everything that comes before it.

“Part of the joy of reading comics is when readers are genuinely surprised by the story on the page,” said Ross in a statement. “And that sense of mystery, suspense, and surprise is something I’ve desperately wanted to preserve for Marvel Dimensions. Every detail of the story and the design of the book has been planned extensively. My hope is that readers enjoy the unique introduction to the In-Verse as they’re transported from one world to another.”

Marvel Dimensions is priced at $29.99 and is available in bookstores now. You can order a copy on Amazon.
