Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s official plot synopsis is now availale, and it teases the villain fans will see in the upcoming Marvel movie.
Ahead of tomorrow’s ticket pre-sales for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a new synopsis of the movie has been released on the film’s official website. It’s similar to previous plot summaries, but there is one key difference: the new synopsis mentions a “powerful villain no one can even see.”
“It’s a Brand New Day for Peter Parker,” the synopsis says. “Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him — and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him —sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves — a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.”
Currently, the confirmed villains for Spider-Man: Brand New Day include Scorpion, Tarantula, Boomerang, The Hand, Tombstone, and, seemingly, a corrupted version of The Hulk. It has long been speculated and rumored that Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey, leading some to believe she is the film’s villain. Could she be using her powers to remain unseen to others? Would Marvel want to reintroduce this character as a villain instead of a hero? It’s hard to say right now.
The trailer for the film also indicated that whoever the villain is, they have some kind of mind-control powers or can possess other people. Jean Grey certainly has the power to hijack someone’s mind, which has lent some credibility to these theories. Either way, it’s interesting that Marvel is holding back on revealing the film’s villain.
Instead, Marvel seems to be leaning on the emotional core of the story, which is that Peter Parker is living a lonely, isolated life after wishing that everyone would forget about him in No Way Home. It suggests Brand New Day may dig a bit deeper with heightened personal stakes. Leaks have also indicated that this will be the longest Spider-Man movie to date, at two-and-a-half hours long, so there will be plenty of time for the film to breathe.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases on July 31, but Amazon Prime users will be able to see the film two days early.
