LEGO Reveals a Working Pinball Machine You Can Build Yourself

LEGO has been putting out a lot of cool new sets for adults this year, but the latest offering is more than just a build. Set #11374 is a working pinball machine, complete with dual flippers and a spring-power launcher.

The LEGO Arcade Pinball Machine is made up of 2,274 pieces and features a space theme. Once fully built, you can use the provided pinball to actually play, launching the ball up a ramp and into various bumpers. You’ll be able to buy the new set starting on July 1 for LEGO Insiders and July 4 for everyone else. The price is set at $229.99.

LEGO Icons Arcade Pinball Machine

At first glance you may mistake the theme of this pinball machine to be the same as the Windows 95 3D pinball game, Space Cadet. It’s just got the kind of retro-futuristic vibe you’d expect from the ’90s while including some really cool modern LEGO building techniques. You can actually play it, but the size of this set would suggest it’s still primarily a display build. It’s about 15-inches long and 11-inches wide with the back “screen” sitting just over 9.5-inches tall.

This LEGO Pinball joins a growing category of retro-style sets aimed at adult builders. These types of sets continue to be quite popular and unique in their design. Just last year our LEGO Editor Chris Reed had the chance to build the Minifigure Vending Machine set and came out of that feeling very impressed with the ingenuity of LEGO Designers. We also had the chance to build the iconic Pac-Man Arcade, which our LEGO Expert Kevin Wong called “a mechanical marvel”. These types of sets may seem a bit gimmicky when you first see them, but it really is quite incredible what LEGO has been able to create with just plastic bricks over the years.

More LEGO Sets Releasing in July

There are some really exciting upcoming LEGO sets scheduled for later this summer, but July has been looking pretty sparse. Other than this Pinball set, there’s a Star Wars Imperial Lambda-Class Shuttle, an Aston Martin F1 Car, and a Marvel: Venom bust coming out next month. LEGO will likely reveal more sets before then, but August is when you can expect the majority of the heavy hitters.

Starting on August 1 there will be Pokémon SMART Play sets, new One Piece sets, and even a new Batmobile.
