That Texas Blood: Image Comics’ Neo-Noir Western Returns for a Sequel Series

Chris Condon and Jacob Phillips’ That Texas Blood has easily been one of the biggest hits from Image Comics in recent years, and it’s not hard to see why. The original series is basically a fusion of Cormac McCarthy and John Carpenter, delivering a neo-noir Western unlike any other. The series has even proven popular enough that it’s now being adapted as a live-action FX show. With that in mind, it’s great to learn that Condon and Phillips are collaborating on a sequel.

IGN can exclusively reveal That Texas Blood: Hell Comes to Allison Ranch. This new series again follows the existentially troubled Sheriff Joe Bob Coates as he embarks on a violent new case at the titular ranch. Check out the slideshow gallery below for a first look at the new series:

Here’s Image’s official description of That Texas Blood: Hell Comes to Allison Ranch:

The acclaimed fan-favorite series returns with a jam-packed new #1, providing the perfect jumping on point for new readers excited for the forthcoming FX TV Show!

On March 19, 2003, Sheriff Joe Bob Coates and Deputy Wilson Hart are called to the Allison Ranch—the largest and richest ranch in the United States—where family grievances are blooming into full-blown war. This first issue will be loaded with bonus materials including behind the scenes peeks and other new backmatter, such as: a new in-universe cartoon by Joe Bob’s son, an era-specific political cartoon by Matt Bors of The Nib and The Toxic Avenger, a serialized interview with Spencer Ackerman (Forever Wars), an interview with the THAT TEXAS BLOOD show writers Jim Mickle & E.L. Katz about THAT TEXAS BLOOD and their approach to it for TV, and more.

“We’re back! Jacob and I were set to release That Texas Blood ‘s latest volume but decided to hold back the release and put together a package that was bigger and better than That Texas Blood has ever been before,” Condon tells IGN. “This new issue will kick off a new miniseries set in 2003 and will be jam-packed with bonus materials, including interviews with Spencer Ackerman (Forever Wars, Reign of Terror: How the 9/11 Era Destabilized America and Produced Trump), Jim Mickle and E.L. Katz who will be adapting the book for television, a new era-specific cartoon by Matt Bors, and more. We are so excited to be returning to That Texas Blood with our new teammates Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou and Michael Tivey, and feel strongly that this may just be the best issue we’ve produced yet. You won’t want to miss a beat—trust me.”

“After the incredibly exciting announcement of the That Texas Blood TV show we are doubly excited for the comic to be returning with a brand new miniseries,” says Phillips. “This oversized issue full of extra goodies is the perfect jumping-on point for new readers as well as warm welcome back to Ambrose County for those that have been with us from the start. Join us and Sheriff Joe Bob Coates and come along for the ride!”
