The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Pocket-Sized Book Set Gets a Big Price Drop Before Prime Day

Before Prime Day officially kicks off on June 23, some deals are going live a bit early. If you’re a LotR fan, one of these deals that might pique your interest is the leather-bound Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Pocket boxed set. You can pick up the 4-volume collection for $26.23 if you’re a Prime member, a hefty 65% off of the sticker price of $75 before the sale fully starts.

This pocket-sized collection is one of many likely Hobbit and/or The Lord of the Rings book deals Amazon will have during Prime Day if previous years are any indication. For more of what you can expect, you can browse our gift guide to compare prices and pick up some Lord of the Rings items when the full sale goes live.

The collection includes The Hobbit and all three The Lord of the Rings novels: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Each leatherette-covered book comes shrink-wrapped for shipping purposes, and each title is gold stamped on the front for a beautiful final product that makes for a great coffee table centerpiece. Each book measures in at 4 1/4 in. by 5 7/8 in. and come bound together in a slipcase to make storing on your bookshelf easier.

Compared to other versions (like the illustrated editions), these are just the base novels; no supplementary notes, maps, forewords, or other tales here. But their size and convenience makes this a hard collection to pass by if you’re looking to read J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy stories for the very first time.

Should You Wait for Prime Day to Buy?

Amazon has officially labeled this discount as a ‘Prime Deal’, which means it’s only available to Amazon Prime members. It isn’t technically part of Amazon’s Prime Day sale, but that doesn’t make it any less of a good deal. This is the overall best deal on this box set we’ve seen in years and is absolutely worth picking up at this price. And while it isn’t likely to drop further in price for Prime Day this year, it’s possible it could get swept up in some sort of Prime Day promotional sale later in June. This is typically a ‘3 for 2’ sale or a ‘buy 2 get 1 50% off’ sale that Amazon applies to a wide range of books. If you’re hoping to buy more than just this box set, it could be worth waiting a little bit longer for that larger sale as it’s a better time to buy books overall when those discounts are happening.
